Three area H.S. Football teams still have championship hopes

NAPLES, Fla. & VENICE, Fla. - Three local high schools advanced in the FHSAA Football playoffs on Thanksgiving weekend. One school pulled and up-set, while another favored school just escaped.
Naples hosted Dunbar, both teams came into the game at 10-1. The Golden Eagles took a 10-0 lead into half time on the back of an 11 yard touchdown run by Carlos Hyde. Dunbar would answer in the second half and take the lead. But, Carlos Hyde was too much. He scored again for Naples who held on to win 17-14.
The Naples Golden Eagles play Monsignor Pace on Friday, December 5th. Also in 3A, DeSoto County beat Braden River 14-7. They will face Cocoa next week.
High powered Venice hosted the Charlotte Tarpons. Charlotte was down by seven in the third quarter when they mounted a comeback. They managed to cut the lead with a field goal, then with less than 3 minutes left in the game, Troy McCleary returns a punt 90 yards. Charlotte pulls off the upset 25-21.
They'll play at Largo next weekend in the the Class 5A Regional Finals on Friday, December 5th.
