Inmates on the move

By WINK News

FORT MYERS, Fla. - 476 inmates at the Lee County Jail stockade are moving into a brand new building today.

The new core facility at the Ortiz Avenue site is part of a $54 million project, which includes the new forensic center near Daniels Parkway.

The decades old stockade is due for demolition in two weeks.

The county is now working on plans for a new jail building for the stockade site. Even on move in day, the Lee County jail system will still be over capacity.
