COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. - Deputies arrested an unregistered sex offender by using a new device.
The Sheriff's Office began using the device, called Rapid I.D. In September. It allows deputies to search more than 4 million people in the Florida criminal system just by using a fingerprint.
On Thursday, deputies say they used Rapid I.D. on a man they were questioning at an Immokalee shopping plaza. The man apparently gave a fake name, but when deputies ran his fingerprint through Rapid I.D. his name and two outstanding warrants came up.
Deputies arrested Joe Castillo for an outstanding warrant claiming he violating probation in 1999. The other warrant was from 2004 for failing to register as a sex offender.
Castillo was found guilty in 1997 after exposing himself to an 11-year-old child.
