Port Charlotte, Fla.- Four teenaged boys are accused of breaking into and vandalizing a neighbor's home.
The house is a furnished rental and was about to be moved into, but now there's no telling how long it will take to clean up the mess.
"I don't know how or why," said Amber Rovegno, a friend of the homeowner.
She tells WINK News she got a call from a neighbor who caught the boys, ages 12 to 14 partying inside the Port Charlotte home on Sunday.
"When I came in, it was just a complete disaster," she explained, "It was just vandalized beyond all belief."
Charlotte County detectives say the boys got into the house through an unlocked door and left behind a trail of damage in every room.
On Monday, cigarette butts and ash was still seen everywhere and broken glass, food, even urine covered the floors.
"I don't know what would cause someone to vandalize and destroy someone else's property without any regard," said Rovegno.
As of Monday afternoon, the homeowner who lives in California, had not seen pictures of the damage.
"I'm kind of dreading sending them," she said.
Besides the clean-up, Rovegno says they're also going to have to replace the furniture.
She pointed toward the mattresses in a guest room that had been cut into, "There was this student's wallet with his school ID and cash still in it, so he was a prime target to get nabbed."
The couches were also ruined. Detectives say the teens burned the word "pimpin'" on the sofa armrest.
Detectives also found an eyeglass case containing marijuana in one of the bedrooms.
"I can't even imagine, 12 and 14. Where were the parents?" questioned Rovegno.
We went to the homes of all four teens, but no one was home.
Detectives say one of the boys, who was turned in by his father, told them the house "looked like a good spot to party for the weekend".
Another teen also admitted to returning to the home with the three other boys on Saturday and Sunday, according to detectives.
The teens were released to their parents and placed on 21 days of home detention.
They face multiple charges including felony criminal mischief and burglary.
"It's sad, very, very sad," said Rovegno. She still doesn't know how much the clean up will cost, but it could run in the thousands.

The parents should be held responsible for the costs to repair. Parents need to teach children to be responsible for their actions. I know it is difficult but we most be more strict. Children are let off too easy these days. Some of us need to focus on respect and responsiblity for ourselfs and others.

Go Morgan. We need you as part of the police team. I fully agree with you. If the kids are to young to do time, then the parents will be responsible to pay for all damages. Next time, the parent will be interested in knowing where their children are at. Any child under 18, parents should know where they are at, at all time.

how can you blame the parents when a parent can't even spank his on child without going to jail.

Twelve & fourteen? What do those kids know of "partying"? When I was 12 & 14, my parents knew where I was every second of the day. It sounds like their parents are doing a great job & the kids are well on their way to becoming productive members of society. But not really. Losers.

wonder where they got the idea...these kids need to be held accountable, not the parents. why has our socity been snowballing into not enforcing laws that are in effect. smoking weed at 13yrs old, come on dont tell me the parents dont know. they either dont care, are afraid of there own kids or are just bad examples themselfs.parents need to grow up and get a spine and shut down these antics.the other people in socity suffer from bad parenting.what do the kids get out of it?grounded maybe.
