Gas prices falling, but not at all stations

By Tami Osborne, WINK News

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. - One year ago, most of us couldn't have imagined gas at $3.33 a gallon, but now some drivers tell us they're ecstatic to see the signs with those numbers again.

"Its about time," Marty Walsh says.

"You can drive down the road and see cents fall off," Matt Nickell adds.
But the prices are still all over the board.

"Just between different gas prices around the county, I've seen a range of 66 cents," Ian Welsh says.

The cheapest we found in Collier County - $3.33 for a gallon of regular. That was at a BP on East Tamiami Trail.

Further east on the Trail, gas is selling for $3.99 a gallon, also at a BP.

An attendant couldn't tell us why the prices are still so high at this BP near US 41 and State Road 29, but people in the area say its probably because there aren't many stations around.

The closest is a Texaco where gas is selling for $3.89.

The owner says she hopes to lower that with her next shipment, but that won't happen until the gas she has now is gone.

With prices so much lower, many people are choosing to fill up at stations where they can get more miles for their dollar.

"When my commute costs me ten dollars round trip to and from work, I love 3-33!" Welsh says.

And so do many other drivers who hope gas prices only get better from here.

"Its about time it came down to something a little more affordable for everybody," Walsh says.

One thing some drivers did complain about, is gas still being too high compared to the price of oil.

We did some research today, and here's what we found. The average price of a gallon of unleaded in Southwest Florida today is $3.55. Oil closed at just under $89 a barrel today. One year ago, oil closed at about $81 a barrel, and the average for a gall on of regular unleaded in Southwest Florida was $2.86.

Remember the old saying "your Dollar, is your vote!". Remember to vote to the place you can save money! If, you keep buying your gas at a higher price, they will keep it higher! Just keep a look out for the lowest prices!

I don't understand the different gas prices. If oil is down to $81. a barrell then gas should be much lower. Noone has the money to go anywhere outside of work.

When is the government going to look into the discrepancy between the cost of oil per barrell and the price we pay at the pump - it should be illegal to overcharge like this!!
