Cardinals official Kissell dies after car accident

By The Associated Press

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. (AP) - Hospital officials say longtime St. Louis Cardinals official George Kissell has died after being injured in a traffic accident in Florida.

Tampa General Hospital spokesman John Dunn confirmed the death Wednesday. It was not immediately known when Kissell died.

Police say Kissell's daughter was driving her parents Monday night when she apparently ran a red light and was struck by another car.

Dunn says the 88-year-old Kissell was transferred to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. His daughter was treated and released.

Kissell's wife was also in the car, but her condition is not known. The driver of the second vehicle had minor injuries.

Kissell had been with the Cardinals organization since 1940. He was a major league coach from 1969 to 1975.
