Body found in vehicle in Cape Coral canalCape police await identification of body found in vehicle in Cape Coral canal
CAPE CORAL, Fla. - The Cape Coral Police Department is awaiting confirmation on the identification of a body found inside a vehicle that was found in a canal in the northwest Cape. At 9:20 a.m., police located a green 2004 Cadillac CTS in the canal at the intersection of NW 19th Avenue and NW 26th Street.
The Cadillac was eastbound on NW 26th Street and failed to make the right turn onto NW 19th Avenue. The vehicle drove into a vacant lot and traveled eastbound across the lot and entered the canal. The Cadillac was on its roof underwater and facing eastbound at final rest. The police dive team entered the water and determined that a body was still inside the Cadillac. The vehicle was removed from the canal along with the body of a Hispanic male. Identification of the male is pending an investigation by the Medical Examiner's Office. This is the 11th traffic fatality in Cape Coral this year. The city had 13 fatalities in 2007. --- Information from the Cape Coral Police Department |
