Additional charges in animal rescue scam
LEE COUNTY, Fla.- The Lee County Sheriff's Office announced Monday, it is pursuing more than one hundred additional charges against three people accused in an animal rescue scam that left dozens of cats and dogs starving.
Detectives say Carrie Cagata, Shannon Kraham, and James Cullen will each face one count of animal cruelty and one count of animal abandonment for each animal seized from the Buckingham area property last week.
Lee County Animal Services seized more than 80 animals from the property and according to officers, many of the dogs and cats were emaciated.
LCAS tells WINK News it is working now to file the paperwork so it can gain custody of the dogs.
The agency has not been able to get in touch with Cagata to ask her to sign over custody.
Once that happens, Animal Services hopes to adopt the animals out to good homes.
Cagata and Kraham bonded out of jail last week, Cullen has remained in custody.
Detectives say the additional charges mean all three will be re-arrested.
