Long, hard week for many in Bonita Springs

By Tami Osborne, WINK News

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. - Flood waters are slowly receding in the neighborhood northeast of Bonita Beach Road and Imperial Parkway. While things are drying out, the water has left its mark on those who saw it come in their homes, and those who saw it come close.
"To see it just keep coming and keep coming worry that it was going to come into your house and flood everything. You get a little upset," Dwayne Rayburn says.
He is one of the lucky ones, though.
"I'm still worried, but at the same time, I'm happy that we didn't get the water, but I feel bad for some of my neighbors," Rayburn adds.
While the water is going down, Rayburn still has to deal with it for now, not only because it covers his street, but...
"It smells pretty horrible," he says.
But that may pale in comparison to the lasting problems this flooding has caused for many.
"I think they're going to have to tear some of these houses down," Rayburn says.
487 people remained at the Red Cross shelter at the Estero Community Center Friday night.
Shelter managers say right now, they have no plans to close the shelter. They say it will all depend on when the evacuees will be able to return home or find a more permanent place to stay.
