Pet Rescue

By WINK News

BUCKINGHAM, Fla. - When you hear Gina Brashear's story, it may leave you scratching your head. Not only because of what she does, but how she gets it all done.

"This one is from a foreclosure, this one and the one in the pen," said Gina Brashear as she showed us some of the dogs she's rescued.

She's currently caring for 18 pets, cats, kittens, dogs - some large, some small. Brashear has a lot of land, so there's plenty of room for all of them.

"I do the same thing every time, every day same time of day," said Brashear.

She feeds them, makes sure they have their shots and medicine, even pays to get them spayed or neutered.

"I've always loved animals...I love em'. I wanted to be a Vet but I wasn't smart enough to go to vet school so I went to hair school."

After closing her salon, she started taking in pets. But in the last few months, she's been overwhelmed. "I'd say 80% of my dogs come from foreclosures. People losin' their homes," says Brashear. "They leave here crying, I'm crying."

The goal is to buy the original owner some time.

"I work with em'. I tell em, if you want me to hang on to it for a couple of months I will so you can get back on your feet, come back to me."

If not, Brashear tries to find the pets a good home. In the meantime, they've found one in her home.

If you are interested in adopting a pet or want more information, you can contact Gina Brashear.
