LEE COUNTY, Fla. - WINK News Photographer Jason Nguyen and Reporter Melissa Yeager spent the day surveying damage in Lee County. Their day started at 2:00 a.m. in Cape Coral where they found the wind beginning to blow and signs wavering.
As they crossed into Fort Myers, they found palm tree leaves scattered along McGregor Boulevard.
By 3:30 a.m., they arrived in downtown Fort Myers to see rain pouring down.
By 4:30 a.m. they were out in Captiva.
They didn't see much damage at Bowman's Beach, and it was too dark to for our camera to show you the small waves.
At a little after 5:00 a.m., they were at the Sanibel lighthouse, where the rain picked up before heading into Fort Myers Beach.
Many parts of Estero Boulevard through Fort Myers beach had flooding, in the deepest areas the water reached about 6 inches. As cars drove through these areas, our crews witness some hydroplane.
After leaving Fort Myers Beach, they headed to Lehigh Acres, where they found stoplights blinking, power crews working, and tree limbs scattered on the roads.
