Ice rink coming to Cape's summer fun park?

By Jeremiah Jacobsen, WINK News

CAPE CORAL - Putting summer and winter together could become Cape Coral's newest tourist draw.

The city council is seeking proposals from developers on a plan for an ice rink and hotel at the city-owned Sun Splash water park. As a bonus, keeping the rink cold would actually create heat; that could be used to keep the water flowing at Sun Splash year-round.

"We could have a lot of programs we can't offer in the city today because we have no ice rink, at the same time we can use the heat transfer from the ice to heat Sun Splash, heat it year round, make it a more profitable enterprise, even lower prices for our people," said Cape Coral mayor Eric Feichthaler.

The city would rent the land to a private developer. Supporters say that means taxpayers wouldn't have to foot the bill for the additions.
