Burglary wipes out Habitat for Humanity home

Mom, kids have nearly all possessions stolen

By WINK News

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. - January was a good month for Raeshonda Williams. She and her three young girls had just moved into a new Habitat for Humanity home in Lehigh Acres, a home she had helped build. But their dream of home ownership has been shattered. Thursday, thieves broke in when the family was away and stole nearly everything in the house. Clothes, furniture, school supplies, toys and even food was taken.

Judging by tire tracks in the driveway, Williams believes the criminals drove a truck right up to the front door, broke through a window and began unloading the contents of the house.

Now, Williams' kids are afraid to return home. "I'm trying to reassure my kids- they don't want to live here anymore," she says, "they fear that someone's going to come in while we're here."

Williams did not have insurance for the contents of the house so she is essentially starting over. She and the kids still have their beds but not much else.

If you'd like to help out, call Habitat for Humanity at 239-652-0434. If you think you know anything about the crime, you are advised to call the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
