NORTH PORT, Fla. - The family of a North Port man killed by a hit and run driver says it was not an accident.
The Florida Highway Patrol says on July 13th, 20-year-old Alex Teehee was hit while walking near the corner of Sibley Bay and Central Streets in Port Charlotte. The driver sped away and is still on the run.
Teehee was flown to Lee Memorial Hospital where he died the next day.
"He was just a great guy, everybody loved him," says his sister Jana Thompson.
He leaves behind family, friends and his two young sons he had sole custody of.
"He was a very giving person, excellent father, talented athlete, outstanding mechanic at 20," says his father Tad Teehee. "He just had a lot going for him."
Investigators are now working to see if this crime was intentional. His family believes it was not an accident.
"It does look intentional," says Thompson. "The investigation at the crime scene, the tire marks, a scuffle heard by an eye witness."
The family is now asking anyone with information to call The Florida Highway Patrol.
"We had some big hopes for him in the future that he'd be able to achieve some dreams but he won't be able to now," says Tad Teehee.
There is a memorial service scheduled for Saturday, July 26th, from 1pm to 4pm at Farley's Funeral Home in North Port.
