Firefighter investigated for making fake 911 call

KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) - Monroe County officials are investigating whether a firefighter made a false 911 call because he was going to be late for work.

County firefighter Gabe Pacheco was placed on paid leave.

Authorities said someone dialed 911 at around 8 a.m. July 14 regarding a person with a broken leg at a boat ramp. Responding firefighters found no emergency and checked with dispatch to determine what number was used to make the call, officials said.

The number came back as Pacheco's cell phone number.

Officials will decide whether Pacheco should be disciplined internally or charged criminally.
