NW Florida sheriff's deputy killed during standoff
FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Authorities released the identity of the slain Okaloosa County sheriff's deputy and the gunman who fatally shot him while barricading himself inside his home.
Deputy Anthony Forgione, of Niceville, Fla., was the second Florida officer in less than a week to be killed in the line of duty. Authorities identified the gunman as 46-year-old Mark Reed Rohlman. Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Michele Nicholson said Forgione, 33, was married and had two young children. He was the department's first officer to be killed while on duty. He was a former Fort Walton Beach police officer who was hired by the Okaloosa Sheriff's Department in 2005. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
