UPDATE: Mickey Rosado pleads guilty

Former Cape Coral City Councilman Mickey Rosado pleads guilty

UPDATE: Rosado’s attorney says because both of the charges are misdemeanors, he could run for office again

LEE COUNTY, Fla. - Former Cape Coral City Councilman Mickey Rosado pled guilty Monday to two misdemeanor charges stemming from a 2006 land deal. He was accused of using his position to influence business associates.

Rosado will have to spend two years on probation, and pay thousands of dollars, but he can still run for a political office in Cape Coral and anywhere else.

“The State Attorney’s Office wound up dropping the felony count, which is what we were concerned about. And he entered a plea to two misdemeanors, received county probation, and we’re very happy with the outcome," said Rosado's attorney Joseph Viacava.

LEE COUNTY, Fla. - Former Cape Coral City Councilman Mickey Rosado pled guilty in open court Monday to two first degree misdemeanor charges: Attempting to operate as a broker without a license, and misuse of confidential information. Attempting to operate as a broker is a lesser included offense to the original felony charge of operating as a broker.

Pursuant to a plea agreement between the State and the defense, which was accepted by Circuit Judge Thomas Reese, Rosado was formally adjudicated guilty of both offenses, and was sentenced to 1 year of probation on each charge, to run consecutively for a total of 2 years probation.

He was also fined $1000 ($500 per count), and ordered to pay court costs of $210 and prosecution costs of $50.

In addition, he was ordered to make restitution in the amount of $10,000 to Maria Giraldo.
