UPDATE: Robbery suspect search in Lee County

By WINK News

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA - A sting of robberies is being blamed on the same gunman. A manhunt is underway in Lee County. It all began this morning at a Sweetbay in Punta Gorda. The gunman demanded drugs but didn't get away with anything there. An hour later he showed up at a CVS in Cape Coral, this time getting away with the drugs he demanded.

Information from The Punta Gorda Police Department:
It all began this morning (Thursday July 17, 2008) at Sweetbay Supermarket in south Punta Gorda. The suspect asked the Sweetbay pharmacist for some controlled narcotics and when asked for a prescription, displayed a revolver which was tucked into his waistband. The pharmacist refused to meet his demands and the suspect then fled the store in a white pickup truck.

Witnesses provided the following description of the suspect:
- White male, late 20’s to early 30’s, 5’11”-6’2”, medium build
- Wearing a green paisley bandanna on his head; white or light-colored zip-up, hooded sweatshirt; a dark undershirt; and blue jeans with dark shoes
- Possibly a slight goatee and sideburns

The suspect then entered a CVS Pharmacy in Cape Coral around 8:44am, demanded narcotics without a prescription, and displayed a revolver in his waistband. At the time of this incident, the suspect had removed the bandanna and was wearing a floppy-brimmed, fishing style hat with sunglasses on top.

In both instances the suspect fled the scene with a white female in a pickup truck described as follows:
- Early 90’s full-size Chevrolet or GMC pickup
- White in color, with oxidized, powdery-looking paint
- Multiple dents
- The tailgate appeared to be held on to the vehicle by a dark-colored rope running horizontal to the ground.

Detectives from the Punta Gorda Police Department and Cape Coral Police Department are currently investigating the incidents.
