SWFL company accused of scam

By WINK News

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA - From Utah to Mississippi, people across the country are coming forward claiming they've been scammed by a Southwest Florida man.

In a 34-page report, nine different people file complaints against a Fort Myers Beach man.

They all say they bought a solar powered generator from the man's website, but he never delivered.

They paid nearly $1300 and sent the cashiers check or money order to a P.O. Box on Fort Myers Beach.

They were promised delivery within six to eight weeks, but still nobody has their generator.

Some of the victims found the business through the owner's MySpace page.

The owner has several complaints against him with the Better Business Bureau.

Now, the Lee County Sheriff's Office is investigating.

"In May, we received our first report and as time has now progressed we're getting additional reports and in fact, now we got some in the last few days," said Sgt. Larry King.

WINK News checked and the website is still up and running. On the website, the owner says the company he uses is holding up the process. He gives his word that everyone will receive their orders.

No charges have been filed, but the sheriff's office is determining whether this is a criminal or civil case.
