CAPE CORAL, Fla. - The Cape Coral Police Department announced they will be implementing Project Lifesaver in Cape Coral.
The project will provide assistance to citizens with family members who "wander" and would qualify for these GPS tracking bracelets. Examples would include Alzheimer's patients and autistic children and adults.
There is an upcoming training session for those interested: July 14-15 at the Police community room. There will be 15 trainees - 12 from Cape Coral Police Department and three from Lee County Sheriff's Office. The training is scheduled from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. each day.
This program is funded with donations from organizations and individuals. The Police Department will provide the "team" to oversee the operation of the program, while funding will be administered by the Cape Coral Community Foundation. The Foundation has received about $10,000 in donations for the program operation.
