FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Boston Red Sox and Lee County officials seem to favor the construction of a Fenway Park look-alike for their spring training facility, and if the Sox had their first choice, they'd build Fenway South... in Estero.
Lee County Deputy Manager Bill Hammond told WINK Sports he believes the team would love to move closer to FGCU in San Carlos Park, or to the Estero area.
Lee County Director of Parks and Recreation John Yarbrough told us, while he also believes that to be the case, he says he's been in contact with Red Sox Chief Operating Officer Mike Dee, who has stressed the team wants to make sure a City of Palms Park expansion is still in the mix.
Yarbrough went on to say he doesn't feel this is anything that has to happen immediately.
He says he believes the Sox want to see a solid ballpark plan by 2012.
