Fresh start for troubled airport shuttle service

By Tami Osborne, WINK News

NAPLES, Fla. - Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride! A Collier County shuttle business that fell on hard-times is up and running again.

The airport service stopped operating after a bad business deal.
Now, the shuttle is ready to roll once again.

The Alligator Alley Express is now back at the Naples Airport, and its owner says that's a step in the right direction.

"It had become a nightmare for me, the man has ruined my credit," Susan Payne told WINK News back in April 2007.

At that time, Dave Brown, the man she had tried to sell her Alligator Alley Express shuttle business to, didn't follow through on his promises to buy the business or serve the customers out of the Naples Airport.

"I think he's been fraudulent, not only to me but also to the general public," Payne told WINK News at the time.

It was that same time, the Naples Airport had to kick Brown and Alligator Alley Express out because they say he didn't pay his rent, and didn't have necessary permits or insurance.

Last fall, Payne got her business back, and now, she's returning to the Naples Airport for a fresh start.

"The airport is being very gracious for letting me back in and to offer this public service to anyone in Naples who wants and needs to use it," Payne now say.

She says people need her service, especially with the high price of gas these days.

Now, they can park their car for free at the Naples Airport and board one of the Alligator Alley Express Shuttles to Fort Myers, Fort Lauderdale, or Miami airports right there.

Airport authority executive director Ted Soliday says they had no problems with the Alligator Alley Express when Payne ran it in the past, and says they're glad to have the service here.

"We're here to serve the community and provide convenient air service," Soliday says.

Even if that means a van ride to another airport.
