FORT MYERS, Fla. - A bank robbery occurred Monday afternoon at the SunTrust Bank located at 4415 Metro Parkway in Fort Myers.
Police confirm that they have one suspect in custody.
It happened at about 3:59 p.m. A minute before closing time at the bank. (The lobby hours close at 4:00 p.m.)
The suspect implied to a teller that he was carrying a weapon and demanded money. However, the people inside the bank didn't see one.
The suspect then fled from the bank on foot and ran into a nearby hotel where he asked hotel staff to call him a cab.
Before the cab arrived an officer searching the area for the suspect, entered the hotel and the suspect again fled on foot. He ran into a wooded area where a Lee County Sheriff's Office K9 followed his track to a canal. Officers arrested the suspect after they ordered him to come out of the water.
Fort Myers Police arrested Terry McClelland (d.o.b. 06/28/80) for the robbery. McClelland confessed to the crime. No injuries were reported and no customers were inside at the time of the incident.
