First funeral home for pets opens in SWFL

By Melissa Cabral, WINK News

NAPLES, Fla. - Pet owners now have a place to say their final goodbyes to their loved ones.

Fuller Funeral Home just opened "Pets at Peace" in Naples providing full funeral and crematory services for animals.

This is the first and only funeral home for pets in Southwest Florida and the first funeral service was held Saturday.

Randy Giles says it was a fitting tribute to pay his final respects to his 11 year old German Shephard Spock.

Giles says, "People who have pets would appreciate something like this because they would probably be like me in a state of denial until it's too late."

I was curious and called to see how much this costs. I was surprised to find for what you get, that it was very reasonable.

I had to have three of my cats put to sleep not too long ago. I would have liked to do something extra for them, as they were great friends and companions for 17 years.

We're in Canada, and have had to put down 2 old cats (16 and 21) in the past 5 years which was devastating for us. We had private cremations for both and "visitation" - just outside the cremation oven for a few minutes (but better than nothing!) The funeral home & service idea is terrific, we would have taken advantage of that option, for sure. They deserved no less....

I don't have any pets myself but I did work for a Pet Crematory Service in Ohio and I can tell you from first hand knowledge that Pet's at Peace is a wonderful addition to Naples. People have very strong feelings when it comes to their pets and having a place to be able to mourn their death, as they would any family member, will certainly help them with the closure they need.

This is great news. I love my two cats, and I would like to see complete funeral arragements for pets, and perhaps some funeral home could do like we do, have funeral plans, caskets, etc. for our loved pets.

Pets at Peace, according to the news broadcast is actually a FULL SERVICE PET FUNERAL HOME operated by licensed funeral directors, not just a pet crematory. Looks as though there is actually a chapel to view your pet for your final goodbyes, got a glimpse of the tranquil setting and also saw some great memorabilia merchandise on the news. Closer to home, located in Collier County. I will definately think of this when my little Gizmo passes away.

Response to Beth ---- New Horizons doesn't have an actual funeral home, maybe YOU should get YOUR facts straight!

The vets & even animal services have know for years which funeral homes would cremate animals and which would not. My orginal dog was cremated by a local service over 10 years ago.

has anyone heard about New Horizons. They are a pet crematorium in Ft. Myers and they do offer services. Someone should do their research before they report on news.

I hope it doesn't cost the same as a regular funeral. Other wise I'd say ridiculous.

that is a beautiful story! Fuller Funeral Home does a wonderful job with their current funeral homes - and this is another reason to trust them with my pets, too!

This is absolutely wonderful! I have a 14 year-old cat and a ten year-old dog. I know that there time will come and it is comforting to know that there is a place to show them the respect they so deserve for showing their undying love for us over the years.

My dear cat, Cashmere, died five years ago. How wonderful it would have been to have had Pets at Peace for his farewell from our lives.

That is great. I just put my 16 year old cat Max to sleep a few weeks ago. It would have been nice to have done something special for him as he was such a great companion over the 16 years he was with me.
