COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. - Naples Police are looking for a man they say exposed himself to a teenager.
This is just one of many reports like this, recently in Collier County, and a psychologist says the economy may be behind it.
The latest report of exposure happened Wednesday at the Park Shore resort in Naples. That's where police say a middle-aged man exposed himself to a 14-year-old girl walking on a path to the pool.
From resorts, to the beach, to local parks, we've counted at least eight reports of similar incidents in just the past two months.
"There's some sort of sexual enjoyment that an individual gets from exposing themselves. Not actually touching someone but being around someone exposing their genitalia," Naples-based psychologist Dr. Nilsa Rivera explains.
"When an individual experiences stress, you don't have money to pay your rent, you don't have money to buy your food or pay for health insurance, the state of your anxiety increases," Dr. Rivera says.
Dr. Rivera says for exhibitionists, exposing themselves for pleasure is one way they deal with their anxiety.
"People who are extremely distressed by their social or economic situation may tend to act out more frequently," Dr. Rivera explains.
The suspect in Wednesday's incident at Park Shore Resort in Naples is described as a heavy-set, middle-aged white man, with brown hair.
