Alva burglaries on the rise

By WINK News

FORT MYERS, Fla - People who moved out of urban areas in part to escape crime, are angry tonight because thieves have followed them to what used to be a very safe part of Lee County.

The Lee Sheriff confirms burglars have hit nine homes around Alva, in the past 30 days compared to only one break-in, the previous month.

Investigators believe a group of people is watching homes, and striking in the middle of the day. They are stealing safes, guns, jewelry and silver-ware; things they can fence easily.

The Lee Sheriff is increasing patrols in the Alva area during the day. Detectives are working some leads and are confident they will catch the burglars.
