SOUTHWEST FLORIDA - As President Bush made his way off Air Force One, he had a quick personal visit to honor a Fort Myers teen for his volunteer work.
Josh Kelchner, 18, says he'll forever remember what he calls the "humbling experience."
Maggie Crane talked to Josh just moments after he shook hands with the President of the United States.
Shortly after saluting his staff at the foot of Air Force One, President Bush presents Fort Myers teen Josh Kelchner with a prestigious award -- the President's Volunteer Service Award.
"I'm doing things that most people dream of," Kelchner says.
Josh has spent the past 8 years in foster care. Now he gives back to the organization Voices for Kids, which helped him successfully out-grow the system.
"They give money to the case workers and people who help the children," Kelchner says. "They raise money for birthday presents and Christmas presents for kids in foster homes. Basically anything I can do to help raise money or awareness or support or volunteer for them, I do."
He hopes his success story will keep other kids dreaming for the future.
"Work hard, keep going, don't let anything hold you back -- just do the right things and people will notice," Kelchner advises.
Josh says recognition by top brass is humbling.
"Being able to just do this will definitely be a strong drive for me to finish out everything else," Kelchner says.
Josh is heading to West Point with dreams of a military career.
"He was kind of taken aback for a second," Kelchner says. "He was like 'wow, really,' and he's like 'I'm sorry I can't be your Commander and Chief'."
Although President Bush won't be there come graduation day, Josh agrees -- today -- is a pretty cool send-off.
"He said congratulations and good luck."
Josh leaves for West Point next month. He plans to wear the President's Volunteer Service Award pin on his Letterman's jacket.
The president has handed out the award to more than 600 Americans just like Josh since 2002.
