Man charged after baby ingests cocaine

By WINK News

LEE COUNTY, Fla.- The Lee County Sheriff's Office has arrested 30 year old Miguel Viera on child neglect charges after a two year old ingested cocaine that allegedly belonged to him.

According to reports released to WINK News, Viera went to the hospital with the child's mother last Tuesday when the child lost his fine motor skills.

However, Viera left the hospital before deputies arrived.

The child survived after being treated.

Viera told investigators he was sorry for what he did and needed to clear his head before turning himself in.

He went on to say he was holding the dime sized bag of cocaine so he could sell if for money to feed his family, but that it must have fallen out of his back pocket when he pulled out his wallet.

Viera was charged with one count of neglect of a child with great harm, a second degree felony charge.
