Biking to remember fallen firefighters

By WINK News

NORTH NAPLES, Fla. - Some other local firefighters were on a different mission Saturday, honoring nine heroes in nine days.

Jeff Morse, a Brotherhood Rider, said, "We always say we'll never forget, but we want these people to know in South Carolina that we didn't forget what they're doing and what happened up there in Charleston."

About 20 bicyclists left around 9:15 a.m. Saturday morning from the North Naples Fire Department.

They are riding nearly 600 miles to Charleston, South Carolina. One day for each Charleston firefighter killed while responding to a fire last year.

One bicyclist says he trained hard for the ride but is not expecting it to be easy.

Dan McDonald, a Brotherhood Rider, said, "I'm sure we'll come across those instances where we feel like are we sure we're ready for this, up for this, but i think that's when you revert back to thinking about the sacrifice they made."

The Brotherhood Ride will make several stops along the way... collecting donations to give to the victims family members when they arrive.

They will rest up in Arcadia tonight, and start out on their trek again tomorrow.
