SOUTHWEST, Fla -- Flea market vendors selling bootleg music and movies has been a problem before at the Ortiz Flea Market.

Now, the Sheriff's Office went back and busted several vendors selling fake copies.

"It's no different than stealing a car, stealing a purse," said Detective Bill Dunaske.

But Detective Dunaske says seven vendors didn't think twice about selling bootleg movies and music. Five booths caught with thousands of counterfeits. Det. Dunaske says those arrested say they just wanted to make a buck. Movie makers say these modern-day pirates are stealing from all of us, driving up the price we pay for the real thing by selling cheap copies.

"You're gonna get fuzzy picture, poor sound quality, the guy in the front row getting up to use the restroom and you're not going to get the same movie," said Det. Dunaske of the counterfeits.

Lee County detectives didn't stop at the street level.

"Our investigation has taken us to California and other parts of the world," said Det. Dunaske.

WINK News went to the Ortiz Flea Market to get their reaction. The owner wasn't available to talk to us, but they do have a sign that clearly states, don't sell the fake stuff. But WINK News has been to the Ortiz Flea Market before and so have deputies. Last November, when another vendor was arrested, here's what the flea market owner had to say.

"It's really hard to pinpoint it, because we're not professionals, we don't know what it all looks like."

Some of the counterfeits are good...but if you take a closer look, it's easy to tell the difference.

"If the owners are aware that these items are being sold in their flea market, they also are criminally liable and if doesn't put them on notice, it certainly should," said Det. Dunaske.

The vendor who was arrested last November has pleaded guilty.
