Fort Myers Five: 2 in custody, 3 still on the loose

By Nick Spinetto, WINK News

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Fort Myers police say they've caught two of their most wanted criminals.

James Blanks has been located in Fort Lauderdale with the help of his probation officer.

Dwight Sykes was also arrested last night after police received a tip about where he was.

Now the hunt continues for these three remaining men:

- J.D. Irons Jr. (d.o.b. 2-25-69)
- Eric Maurice Brown (d.o.b. 8-26-90)
- Michael Tyrone Donaldson (d.o.b. 8-23-90 )

Until they're caught, people in East Fort Myers tell us they're living in fear.

"It's pretty bad," said Beanne, an East Fort Myers resident.

Driving through her neighborhood, Beanne admits violence there is spiraling out of control.

"There's no jobs. Everybody's doing what they got to do to get money, pay bills," she said.

Beanne asked us not show her face, because like everyone else here she's afraid if she says too much, she could be the next victim.

"My heart goes out to all the mom's and families where relatives got killed," she said.

In the past week, murder and shootings in East Fort Myers have been the topic of conversation.

Police say some of the shootings maybe connected, which is why, if people know something, police are asking them to come forward.

"The community has to get involved. They have to make a stand and until that happens, unfortunately, I think the violence will continue," said Major Doug Baker, from the Fort Myers Police Department.

Since police released mugshots of five men yesterday, 12 tips have come in, which led to the arrest of two of the men.

With three men still being sought, police hope you can be the missing link.

"The community has to be involved. From a law enforcement standpoint, I believe we're out there doing the job, but we can't be everywhere at once," Major Baker said.

While some comments on our website blast police for not doing enough, Beanne backs police up, saying ending the violence begins at home.

"I don't think it's police not doing their job. I think it's people in general," she said.

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of the other men wanted, you're asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS or the Fort Myers Police Department at 239-334-4155.

All calls are anonymous and you could get a cash reward if you call Crimestoppers.

We have been living in the state of mind "let the police do there job", How can we do that when everyone in the dunbar area knows 95% of the homicides arnt getting solved. So like these ones who killed t.c. pple are taking matters into there own hands.(And no im not saying what they did was right b/c its very wrong in they need to be punished).

I THINK YOU SHOULD DO MORE TO PROTECT THE DUNBAR COMMUNITY BECAUSE MY COUSIN WAS GUNNED DOWN IN FRONT OF MY AUNT'S HOUSE WITH MOST OF MY FAMILY WITNESSING IT AND NOW NOBODY KNOWS NOTHING.. I FEEL LIKE WHEN THE POLICE BROKE THE PARTY UP FROM THE THRIFT STORE THEY SHOULD OF STAYED AND MADE SURE THE WHOLE PREMISES WAS CLEARED BEFORE LEAVING AND WE WOULDN'T BE GOING THRUOGH AS MUCH PAIN AS WE ARE NOW BUT TO SUM IT ALL UP "PLEASE GET THESE GANG BANGERS OFF THE STREETS"....

IF U DO THE CRIME THEN YOU NEED TO DO THE TIME.YES THERE WAS A LOT OF BAD COPS IN FT.MYERS BACK IN THE DAY, BUT ALL OF THEM AINT BAD EITHER. WE SHOULDN'T GET MAD AT THE COPS FOR DOING THEIR JOB, WE SHOULD GET MAD AT THE PEOPLE EVEN IF THEY ARE OUR FAMILY MEMBER FOR DOING THE CRIME. LET THE POLICE DO THEIR JOB AND WE "WILL" LIVE AND HAVE A BETTER COMMUNITY.

I agree that the law enforcement can only do so much. It is up to the community to call in tips! So stop protecting those who are guilty and lets start taking back Fort Myers where we should be able to live without fear!!!!!

The law enforcement community can only do what the community allows. The police cannot invent information...it has to come from the community members. Stop protecting these mindless thugs and protect your loved ones. Stop being the victims and take control back of your communities.

I do think we need more protection from the police and the police dept. My little five year old cousin was shot in the face on mother's day. What is it goiong to take for all these shootings to stop, where are these guns coming from? We need help in this community(fast). My other cousin laid in the street DEAD he was only 20 years old. HELP us clean up this community. Seeem like you can't get help unless something fatal happen, and sometime we don't get help then.WE NEED HELP IN THE DUNBAR AREA
