New postage rates. First Class going up; Priority & Express going down

By WINK News

FORT MYERS, Fla. - On Monday May 12 the Postal Service will adjust prices for its services.

The price for a First-Class letters is going up one cent. But, you could save you money when shipping packages. That is because the Post Office has reduced Express Mail prices for items shipped near by.

The post office has lower online postage prices for Express Mail and Priority Mail. Volume Express Mail and flat-rate box prices for Priority Mail have also dropped.

"These innovative pricing incentives will make our products more attractive to all shippers, especially small businesses. We’re pricing our products to sell in today’s competitive shipping market," said Postmaster General John Potter.

A new law regulating the post office makes it easier to raise rates as long as the agency doesn't exceed the rate of inflation. Rates are to be adjusted each May.
