Get paid to sound off on one-way tolling

By Cristin Severance

CAPE CORAL, Fla. - When is the last time someone paid for your opinion?!

Lee Way wants to know what you think of one-way tolling and one person will get hundreds to tell them.

Two dollars to get into the Cape and free to leave.

Cristen Severance: "What do you think of one way tolling?"

"Lets face it, the public are the ones who use it and their opinion matters," says Chris Swenson on LeeWay.

At the six month mark of Lee County's one year experiment, they want to hear your complaints and compliments.

"Its seems to save people a lot of time and traffic is always flowing," says one driver.

"It really doesn't change anything, that's my opinion," says another Cape Coral man.

Go to the website: www.leewaysurvey.com You could change the tolling system back to paying a dollar on your way in and out or keep it at one-way.

"The results are going to go straight to the county. This is really a great way to get their voices heard," say Swenson.

While drivers differ on just what is the best route, county leaders hope they all agree to log on and sound off.

one-way toll has made a terrible increase in the northbound traffic over the river on us.41 at rushour which was terrible before, but now it is terrible.

One person has been smart enough to say the truth--tolls were set up to pay for building not for life--see if you can get Leeway to tell us when the bridges will be paid for. I'd willing to bet that you won't find anyone who can give that answer--In 60 yrs here in Fla. I've never seen a toll booth close for good..sorry that your powers to be doing you again..thank you

I think the one way toll isn't the best idea. The county likes it b/c they are making more money on the one way toll. Less workers same amount of money going to the cape.If they want to keep traffic flowing the should build a over pass where colonial meets summerlin

The one-way tolling made crossing the bridges cost more!

I think one way tolls are a great idea. Why wait in both directions. Lord know those toll workers won't move any faster no matter what. Keep it one way!!!!!!!!

if i'am not mistaken the toll booths were to pay for the building cost of the bridgs which they have done and then some but there still there to rip people off we do pay a tax to upkeep our road ways.

I THINK ITS A GOOD IDEA, WILL THE TOLL BOOTHS BE TORN DOWN GOING TO FT. MYERS IF THE ONE WAY TOLL STAYS?

the back up is going to happen either way but its the lights at either side that contribute to some of the back up

The concept is long overdue and deserves merit. However, the back up is now on the Fort Myers side in the morning due to the traffic lights along College and Colonial. Longer greens and better synchronization would pull the heavy loads off of the bridges much faster. An unfair result of the one way scheme is the decrease in the peak hour discounts for those with transponders. Leeway surely should sweeten the pot with the savings incurred by the reduction in booth labor. More transponders needed.

The problem with the trafic during rush hrs is not the toll. the problem is the trafic lights when you cross the bridge. The patter needs to be change to allow better flow during rush hrs with new traffic light restrictions to make u turns or no turns during rush hrs. In addition, cape coral residents such be entitle to a extra discount for the tolls.
