SOUTHWEST FLORIDA - How would you like to save 50 percent on the cost of produce, fruit and many meats? It's not a come-on or a hype, it's reality for local people trying to stretch those food dollars.
Tess Brennan, of San Carlos Park says, "It's awesome, spectacular! I save 50 to 60 percent."
She and her husband participate in the SHARE Florida Food Network, a Tampa-based operation that distributes food statewide.
She pays $18-dollars for a huge order of food that she picks up at a church in Cape Coral one Saturday a month.
"I wanted to stay at home with my daughter, now 14 months, and to do that, we had to cut the family budget. So we get food at the co-op and I can stay home and watch her grow," Brennan said of her daughter.
There is no income requirement for the co-op, but participants are required to do 2 hours of community service a month. That can include church work or any volunteer effort.
The SHARE Florida Food Network is sponsored by Cornerstone Family Ministries.
