Kids removed from home with human feces all over the wall

By Nick Spinetto, WINK News

EAST NAPLES, Fla. - A East Naples mother is in jail after her kids are found in what's described as horrid living conditions. She was arrested for child neglect.

In the arrest report, the deputy on the scene says he found the home in extreme disarray, which included human feces smeared all over the wall.

"I was just surprised. Really surprised," said Marilisa Rodriguez.

Rodriguez is stunned after seeing her friend and neighbor arrested for child neglect. "They didn't look like they were abused or mistreated," she said about her neighbor's kids. We're not identifying the mother arrested because it could identify the children. Children, the authorities say were being neglected.

When sheriff deputies arrived, they say the little boy had insect bites on his head, but neighbors tell us they live so close to the Naples Botanical Garden that insect bites around here is normal and doesn't scream child neglect.

"My daughter gets bit. It's bad here, because we have the garden," Rodriguez said.

It's actually what deputies say they found inside the home that's neglect. The deputy said the house had no working water or electricity, dead roaches, beer cans all over the kitchen, drug paraphernalia lying around, and because there was hardly any food, the deputy says he saw the two children eating out of ketchup packets.

"We really didn't know it was as bad of a situation going on over there," Rodriguez said.

From the street the house looks normal, right down to the kids toys on the lawn.

But when I went to the front door to get some answers, I saw beer cans on the steps, kids clothes left on the ground and empty mayonnaise packets they may have been eating.

An open window next to the door shows a soiled mattress.

No one was home at the time to give me answers because the mother is still in jail and her kids have been taken away.

Neighbors, however, say appearances can be deceiving. "She's not a bad person. She's was not a bad mom. she might have made some mistakes," Rodriguez said.

The mother is facing both child neglect and drug charges. Her two children are in the care of the Department of Children and Families.
