LEE COUNTY, Fla. - Smiling and waving, 28 Cuban immigrants reached U.S. soil for the second time Monday this time at the Fort Myers beach Coast Guard Station.
Border Patrol agents tell WINK News the migrants left Alamar, Cuba around 10:00PM last night. Alamar is a straight shot to Southwest Florida.
Sometime during the overnight hours, we're told they were dropped off in Upper Captiva Island, where a jogger found them at 8:00AM Monday morning.
Border Patrol tells WINK News these migrants were brought over by human smugglers. Sadly, they were probably considered as no more than cargo.
Their families paid $10,000 dollars each to bring them to the United States.
Due to U.S. policy they'll get to stay. But first, they'll go through another round of questioning on the east coast, to find out who is responsible for this dangerous and potentially deadly operation.
