By WINK News

MARCO ISLAND, Fla. - A police chase in Marco Island Friday ended with the arrest of two men, one of them wanted by police.

Marco Island police tell WINK News that around noon, a police officer saw a car matching the description of a vehicle carrying a 17-year-old runaway from Seminole County, and an 18-year-old man, wanted in Seminole County.

After failing to stop for the officer, the 18-year-old driver led police on a tense pursuit.

During the chase, the driver struck a Marco Island Police Department vehicle and a security gate at Hideaway Beach. A Marco Island police officer inside the vehicle was transported to Naples Community Hospital with a head injury.

The driver and juvenile passenger fled from their car and led police on a foot chase through a wooded section of Hideaway Beach.

Police eventually arrested the 17-year-old near Kendall Drive and Colonial Avenue. Police confirmed the Oviedo, Florida juvenile was a runaway. He'll be charged with resisting a law enforcement officer without violence.

Hours later, around 5 p.m., police arrested the 18-year-old driver in the same area. He's wanted for failure to appear in a Seminole County court. He'll be charged with fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer, leaving the scene of an accident, and resisting a law enforcement officer without violence.

Marco Island Police say the investigation is on-going and additional charges may be added.
