Health insurance bill takes one more committee stop

By The Associated Press

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Almost four million Florida residents without health insurance might be able to get cheap health plans that cover hospital treatment under a bill approved unanimously by a Senate committee.

The measure is a top priority of Governor Charlie Crist, who has praised the Senate Banking and Insurance committee for its unanimous passage of the bill (SB 2534).

It has one more committee stop in the Senate before it goes to the floor.

The measure aims to make some insurance coverage cheaper by eliminating required coverages for things that certain people might not need. For example, some plans might not cover medicines for some diseases, or certain types of care, like prenatal care.
