TEAM COVERAGE: Shooting at a day care

A terrifying time in Cape Coral as a gunman open fire in a day care center, killing an employee.

Friday night, hours after the shooting, WINK News is learning more about the woman who was killed and the man accused of shooting her. The two had a daughter.

The suspect in the day care shooting, Robert Harold Dunn is facing first degree murder charges. Cape Coral Police Chief Robert Petrovich explains, "All the elements are there to charge him with first degree murder."

Police are trying to figure out how Dunn allegedly made it inside his Daughter's day care with a gun and shot and killed her mother. Cape Coral Police Department Spokeswoman Dyan Lee told WINK News, "At 4:42 we called a call into dispatch, shots fired or actually just an armed gunman being at this location."

Police say Robert Harold Dunn went to his daughter's day care and shot the girl's mom, Christine Dunn, who worked there. Dunn's daughter was not hurt, but the mother died.

Police aren't sure how many children saw the women get shot but some were taken to the hospital. "None of the children were hurt, but three children did have blood splatter and they were treated." Lee told WINK News.

Police say when Robert Harold Dunn shot 36-year-old Christine Dunn, there were dozen students inside the day care and the kids say they saw and heard what happened.

One child, in here mother's arms told WINK News, "I just heard the monster and he was trying to come in here."

No matter how great the school some parents say they won't bring their children back because of possible trauma.

Cape Coral Police say if any adult or child experiences any emotional or physical distress brought on by the traumatic event, they should seek counseling.

Adults or kids may also suffering post traumatic stress from the incident. Symptoms, which may come on suddenly and be acute may include, not sleeping well or disturbances in normal sleeping patterns, not eating or loss of appetite, changes in behavioror depression or sadness.
