Port Charlotte man arrested in court with crack cocaine and cash

By WINK News

CHARLOTTE COUNTY - A Port Charlotte man appeared in court on drug charges and was caught with crack cocaine and a lot of cash.

The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office says when 36-year-old Ronald LaPlaca appeared in court on Thursday he had a hard time standing, was loud and smelled of alcohol.

A deputy says he saw LaPlaca reach into his back pocket and pull out a plastic baggy. Upon further investigation, officials found that baggy filled with crack cocaine and $4,000.

LaPlaca was booked at the Charlotte County Jail. He is charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.

No word yet on when LaPlaca is due in court.
