Police: Fort Pierce mother left children in car while shoplifting

By The Associated Press

FORT PIERCE, Fla. (AP) - A Fort Pierce woman is behind bars after police say she left her children in the car while she was shoplifting.

Kasey Ozell Cooper was charged with retail theft and child neglect yesterday. Another woman, Angelique McQuire, faces the same charges - she told deputies she was asked to watch the kids but decided to go into the store as well.

A 4-year-old, 3-year-old and 5-month-old were left unattended.

Officials at Bealls say they caught the women - and a teenager who was with them - taking shirts, sweat shirts and sweat pants out of the store without paying.

Cooper's aunt went to the store to pick up the children after police arrived at the scene.
