Some people think Echo Chernick's art is a steal, but not the way you would think.
"They're being stolen off the drug store walls," said Chernick, a local advertising illustrator.
Her work is also disappearing off the walls of restaurants, libraries, and bookstores. The Cape Coral artist's latest posters, which advertise the upcoming show "Tosca" at the Connecticut Opera, are disappearing quicker than the tickets in Hartford. So what is Echo's reaction about the missing work?
"Oh it's great! I love that they're stealing my posters. That's fantastic." said Chernick.
The Connecticut native was unaware of the extremes people were going to in order to get a piece of this art nouveau that only took Echo about 36-hours to create. She started receiving a lot of phone calls from home.
"I got a call from friends and relatives in the Hartford area who told me they suddenly saw my posters on the news," said Chernick.
"Tosca" is the first of three posters Echo designed for the Connecticut Opera this season. Now she is hoping that the other two posters will have the same demand.
"I'll be disappointed if people don't steal the others as well. They have to complete their collection of all three of them," said Chernick.
Because of the ongoing poster theft, the Connecticut Opera has gone to a second printing of the poster - 750 in all, and even the newest posters are now disappearing. So if you are interested in purchasing any of Echo's award winning posters or other merchandise, click on the hyperlink.
