Collier County sheriff in Washington D.C. to discuss anti-gang enforcement

By WINK News

Collier County Sheriff Don Hunter is in Washington D.C. Tuesday morning.

He will join Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Assistant Secretary Julie Myers, along with several other officials, to discuss the Operation Community Shield Program, and the results of a three-month anti-gang enforcement program.

The group will hold a news conference Tuesday morning at 11. We'll tell you what the officials have to say later on WINK News.

Meanwhile, Sheriff Hunter is calling it quits after nearly 20 years on the job.

Hunter says he will not seek re-election next year. Instead, he's endorsing his long time colleague, Under Sheriff Kevin Rambosk for the job. Hunter says he wants to spend more time with his family.

Private Investigator Victor Ortino, who has criticized Hunter's leadership in the past, will run against Rambosk in next year's election.
