LOS ANGELES (AP) - It turns out that you may not have to pay more for premium cable channels, in order to see some of the best that TV has to offer -- at least judging by this year's Emmy nominees.

The basic-cable series "Damages" and "Mad Men" are each nominated for best series. And Glenn Close, a star of "Damages," is up for an acting Emmy.

She says the growing strength of basic cable has "changed the landscape of television."

Sally Field, of ABC's "Brothers and Sisters," is also up for the lead drama actress Emmy. In her words, "It never gets old. I do, but it doesn't."

America Ferrera of ABC's "Ugly Betty" is among the actresses in the best comedy series category. She says she tried to be nonchalant, but calls it "exciting" to get a nomination.

The Emmy Awards ceremony will be held September 21st and broadcast on ABC.
