There are many different coats out there to chose from, but for people who live in our area, you want something that's versatile and that you can get the most wear out of. Basically, the most bang for your buck.
So here's a classic piece that fits into that category - the swing coat.


The shorter cut. The look from the back. All add up to a must have item in 2008 - the swing coat.

"The sleeves are usually a 3/4 sleeve. What you'll see is some of them have a flare at the end of it and in the back of it is a split with usually a button or a tie that makes it bring into that flow, that swing when you walk," said owner of Caroline's Boutique, Lorie Maschmeier.

It's a swing that experts say fits into the Southwest Florida lifestyle. With clothing lines coming out with many different fabrics this year, a heavy cotton can keep you warm when needed but can be light enough to wear throughout the year.

"For something like Florida, this is a nice jacket because it gives you a more polished look and you're able to wear it when it gets colder out, with a long sleeve or turtle neck on and you're able to be comfortable," said Maschmeier.

Also key, you can go from work to flirt in a matter of minutes, with just a few other items and accessories.

"You're able to wear it with a pair of jeans and a longer fitted knit tee underneath it, or you're able to dress it up with a pair of slacks or a skirt and a fancier top or a turtle neck and go out to dinner at night. So it has a lot of versatility," added Maschmeier.

But be aware. There are some do's and dont's when it comes to pulling this style off.

"It's going to show the top half of you, so if you're thinner or smaller chested, then that's something you're able to wear. But you do have to remember that it will accent. A heavier woman may not want to wear a swing coat, unless she's wearing a flared skirt," said Maschmeier.

So if you're planning on pumping up your closet soon, you may want to swing right into action.

As for the price, they can start anywhere from double digits and stretch into the thousands.
