COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. - Six Southwest Florida post offices may be closed in the U.S. Postal Service's effort to consolidate.
Three of the branches are in Collier County: Golden Gate, Vanderbilt Beach, and downtown Naples.
The plan is to consolidate services and close as many as 1,000 branches nationwide, to help the Postal Service make up for an expected seven-billion dollar deficit.
Today's list is only preliminary, no final decisions are expected until after September 30th.
Downtown Naples customers tell us they hope their branches aren't closed.
"Its very convenient and its a neighborhood post office," Mary Treptow says. "Whenever I go into that post office, I never leave without running into someone I know."
"I feel very bad, but again, the economy is so bad, I can not criticize the government for doing that," Edna Repass says.
Other Southwest Florida branches on the potential closure list include Fort Myers Miracle Mile and the Murdock and Port Charlotte locations in Charlotte County.
