Chris Berardi (Cape Coral District 7)

Reducing the cost of government, boosting economic development, and beautifying our city.

Q: What is your living arrangement (spouse and kids)?
A: Single.

Q: How long have you lived in the area that you wish to represent?
A: 7 years.

Q: For candidates running for election: Why are you running for this office.  For candidates running for re-election: Why do you deserve re-election?
A: I am seeking to remain as the representative for Cape Coral City Council District #7 because I believe I can make a difference. Our community is at a crossroads, and a time when we will be making decisions that will not only affect our current residents, but also generations to come. For many of these issues, we will have only one opportunity to "Get it Right". In my brief time an an appointed Councilmember, I have demonstrated that I am a fiscal conservative and a strong supporter of economic development.

Q: What is the single most important issue in this election?
A: Growth, and its effect on the future of our city remains the single biggest issue we will face. This growth can be divided into three main areas: Increasing Economic Development, Controling the Cost of Government and Beautifying our City. In addressing Economic Development the next four years will provide great opportunities. We will be creating the vision for the Zemel properties, developing Commercial Activity Centers, and focusing on the CRA. We also must assist current businesses in expansion efforts. Controlling the Cost of Government must start with passage of the Ordinance I sponsored this year related to spending controls and surplus funds. In addition, we must cross-train our employees, allow employees to work from home, take advantage of technology, involve the private sector, and examine our vehicle policies. Beautifying our city will require median and thoroughfare landscaping, done at little cost to the taxpayers by utilizing public/private partnerships. We must also increase code enforcement. This should be cost neutral, as violations should pay for the services.

Q: What sets you apart from other candidates?
A: Over the next four years, our city's future will be shaped more than at any time in its history. I have a vision and a plan for that future.  I have the experience through my service on; The City's Budget Review Committee, The Governmental Affairs Committee for the Chamber of Commerce, The Lee County Regional Planning Committee, and my successful career in private business, to lead our city. I have demonstrated the ability to work with our county, state and congressional leaders during my seven months on the Cape Coral City Council. I will work to make Cape Coral the regional leader for commerce and quality of life.
