FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Governor Charlie Crist will run for U.S. Senate.
With his departure, Florida could see several new faces in prominent statewide offices next election cycle.
Both Attorney General Bill McCollum and Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink have expressed interest in the possibility of running for Governor.
And should the office of Attorney General open up, we could see two Southwest Florida lawmakers potentially face-off in the general election for that position.
State Senator Dave Aronberg (D - Lehigh Acres) has openly expressed his interest in running for AG, saying he would run if Bill McCollum decided to run for Governor.
Aronberg, an attorney and Harvard grad, is known to be extremely media savvy. In his own commercials, he often touts a Charlie Crist quote, calling Aronberg a "Rock Star."
Meanwhile, a close friend of Governor Crist himself could also be running for AG.
Sources in the local Republican Party tell WINK News State Representative Tom Grady (R - Naples) is considering a run for either Attorney General or CFO.
For several years, Grady has been noted as a behind-the-scenes, power player in Southwest Florida. Grady is known to be a highly successful fundraiser and a long-time, personal friend of Governor Crist. In fact, he served on the transition teams for both Crist and McCollum. Most recently, Grady made headlines writing and passing legislation that allows the Attorney General to put securities fraud criminals in jail.
When contacted by WINK News, Grady said he was "humbled by the confidence and support" of the community and would consider a run.
Will Southwest Florida see two of our own face-off a general election? Time will tell, as more dominoes fall.
