Property Tax: Amendment opponents look to tax panel for a better idea

By The Associated Press

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Opponents of the property tax relief proposal are making their case again to Florida voters.

They say Floridians should instead look to the state's tax and budget commission to come up with a better idea.

State Representative Curtis Richardson, who voted against the proposal in the House, argues that what the state needs is overall tax reform.

The proposed state constitutional amendment includes a tax cut for primary homeowners that's expected to average $240 a year. It offers less relief, though, for owners of businesses, second homes and other property.

The Sunshine State's presidential primary is on Tuesday.
