Three Palms Speedway operators evicted

PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- The tenants of the Three Palms Speedway are being evicted.

The historic attraction, located near the Punta Gorda Airport, is thousands of dollars behind on rent. Officials say the speedway has slipped through the hands of too many tenants who promise to bring the track back to life, but never seem to stick around for too long.

“We had high hopes that they would be the one that would be able to take this racetrack, recondition it and make it something special,” said Charlotte County Airport Authority Commissioner Pam Seay.

Jamie and Andy Haase have been the track’s tenants for just over two years. Instead of turning Three Palms back into a lively track, Airport Authority officials say the tenants have just made empty promises.

“He had promised the grandstands to us and that was part of our arrangement in the lease,” said Seay.

The operators are not only more than $20,000 behind on rent, but a racer who lent the two $45,000 is now suing them for his money back.

WINK News tried to contact the operators of Three Palm Speedway for comment, but they did not respond.
